Question about mintage marks on USA Gold Coins
I stumbled on a 1908 Indian Head Gold Coin, similar to the one in this picture.
I am trying to determine the value and some of it's history, but there doesn't seem to be any mintage marks. Normally they would be found on the eagle-side, to the left of the arrowheads, but there's nothing to be found (same as in the linked picture).
Am I right to assume no mintage marks means Philadelphia mintage? If my research was correct there were no mintage marks in the very beginning because Philadelphia was the only place where coins were made, but the no-minting continued until the forties, although by then Denver and San Francisco were making coins, too.
I was hoping somebody could confirm these findings or perhaps guide me further on the research.
